Standing Headroom

It is rather non-PC to talk about standing headroom in the presence of a Viking 28 owner. This little yacht has a wonderful reputation as a racer and a sea-kindly boat but sooner or later, owners will hanker after the joys of standing vertical while below.

Unfortunately, this all too often leads to the departure of an otherwise happy Viking owner.

At last we have a solution, at least for those of us lucky enough to own one of the pop-top versions. (Maybe it would even be worthwhile to convert the earlier model)

Last year, Genco made me a canvas pop-top cover that gives a veritable cathedral ceiling below yet stows neatly and quickly on the coach roof while sailing.

With the pop-top up, stainless tubing supports the aft end of the cover.

I have found that there is virtually no interference with sailing functionality although it is preferable to remove the tubing completely for racing. A two-minute job.

There are zippered windows and fly-screens on three sides. When the windows and door are rolled up, there is wonderful ventilation to keep you cool. When zipped up it is very cosy. But best of all you can pull your shirt over your head while standing in the cabin!

I can thoroughly recommend this as both an enhancement to your pleasure of cruising and also to the value of the boat.
